Cosmo: Good Sunday to you. It is absolutely gorgeous where we are in the 'burbs northeast of NYC.
The issue is not anti-trust or anti-competitive practices. (I can't speak to whether GBLX's domicile, in and of itself, would insulate it from any investigation into its practices in jurisdictions where it is found to be present, i.e., doing business. In any event, this was, as I have said, not the thrust of my query.) Sorry, have to post this in two parts...

Part II: One of the principal moving forces in spinning off LU from T (you will recall, well after ol' Ma Bell was broken up into T and the Babies) was managements' perception that LU's equipment vendor business was being adversely affected by its subsidiary relationship to T: other carriers simply preferred to source elsewhere rather than give their business, indirectly, to their most oppressive competitor--T. As I see it, an analagous relationship obtains here: GBLX is a--will be--a world wide fiber pipe; Global Marine (got to get out of my head oilfield services) will lay and service undersea fiber. The question is will LVLT, for example, be more inclined to do business with Tyco than the former C&W unit, since that will inure to the benefit of GBLX. This is not, as you can see, a regulatory issue at all. I am long GBLX since 1998 and happy with it. This is a question that occurred to me. Regards. Liacos_samui
