Tellium looks like one to watch. A subsidiary of Telcordia (formerly Bellcore), spun off as a commercial unit, it may be a sitting duck for a take-over. I've watched SDL long enough to know they're looking to expand in the transport side of DWDM, making them a good fit.

There's no way to play Tellium as Telcordia is part of the privately held SAIC, either the largest or second largest private company in the US. When ATT spun off Lucent, they also spun off SAIC. One went public, the other didn't.

The news you posted makes a trip to SuperComm terribly tempting.
