<<I doubt very much that this type of failure is insurable as it was not caused by anything external to the company. The moral hazard issue would make underwriting this type of loss too difficult.>>

Have to disagree with you here -- products liability insurance covers companies against their own mistakes all the time. AOL was covered when it didn't have the capacity to handle all its customers and they sued for their membership fees. The present outage is exactly the type of accident that is covered by liability insurance. It would almost amount to "malpractice" if CF had no coverage for this, something which the Checkfree's management has shown it is NOT in the habit of doing.

Home Account Network and CheckFree Sign Distribution Agreement for
Electronic Bill Payment and Presentment

biz.yahoo.com

Charles A. White, Chief Executive Officer of Home Account Network said, ''By integrating CheckFree's capabilities with our Canopy(TM) suite of products and services, we can provide advanced bill payment and presentment services to our customers, enhancing their ability to effectively compete in the marketplace. We believe that online bill payment and presentment will play a major role in the attraction of consumers to Internet financial services.''

...Just fricken amazing. A year ago (or two) who would have thought the CEO of CheckFree's main competition , would be endorsing CheckFree?
