Andy, lately I've become a Rambus evangelist of sorts. You should see some of my posts on the RMBS thread, including:

Message 9212994

For the very short term, it doesn't seem like RMBS is going anywhere. Thanks to the Camino chipset delay and the hints that the RDRAM may happen more slowly than anticipated, it seems that the real money isn't coming until next year. But thanks to all of the negative press and the FUD being spread from the "Anything But Rambus" consortium, the price of RMBS stock has already been depressed and isn't likely to fall any more.

If you already hold RMBS stock now, don't sell it unless you are thinking short-term. I sold a few weeks ago because I wanted to make a few short-term trades, but I'll be jumping back into RMBS as soon as I can.

Andy - Re: " I'm wondering if you would share your current evaluation of the long term prospects of Rambus..."

Rambus seems to be "teetering" at this point.

Intel will have to make good on delivering FUNCTIONAL Camino/820 chip sets along with the concurrent availbility of "acceptable" DRDRAM memory chips (speed & price & quantity) by the end of September.

If these objectives aren't met AND 133 MHz SDRAMS become available with alternative chip set support, RAMBUS's future in PC memory may be questionable.

Septemebr/October will be the make/brake point.

However, RAMBUS does seem to have the new Sony Playstation locked up as well as existing Nintendo 64 game machines.
