Kosovar Aid progress - Help needed in Chicago -

First, thank you, guys, for EVERY single PM I've received. Thanks to Wolff for a coming sound card and to an unbelievably generous, anonymous poster who is really making a difference to the TV station there.

Next, our website at:

geocities.com

will be finished enough in a few hours.

Now, it appears that second volunteer, Dusty, may be able to leave at the end of next week. He's flying standby and we couldn't get a second ticket at that rate for Dana, who also has to wait for contributions. We won't have the expensive items we're sending in time to have Dusty take them, but (as is ALWAYS the case in poor countries even without this tragedy), we don't want Dusty to have any empty space in the bags he's taking. He's gathering his own old clothes and filling all the cracks, but I believe there is a much greater need for clothing and ESPECIALLY shoes for women and children.

Does anyone know anyone in Chicago who could gather useful items, donated free, for Dusty to take in his bags? He's an hour south of Chicago. Maybe medical samples (Be SURE they are not expired) too, but clothing and shoes would be enough, and fairly easy on such short notice.

Please let me know -

Re:PPOD Richard, When I lived in NYC I would have considered using an online grocery service. Grocery shopping in NYC is hard without a car in small stores (almost like shopping at the 7/11) and expensive. I am across the river in NJ now and grocery shopping is much easier (and cheaper). If the PPOD warehouse model allows them to obtain the groceries at a lower cost (like the NJ chains) and sell at the higher prices of the NY corner stores then the markup might be respectable. Delivery is still hard though ... many NYC building have a doorman & front desk where packages could be left safely (but not too long if they are perishable). A co-worker of mine in Brooklyn has her groceries left in the garage while she is at work (local store, not PPOD).

I have no position in PPOD but I do see potential in very targeted markets.
