Peter what an insight!!! 3Com = 3comapanies.com. Once upon a time, 3Com's forefather saw the days of .com will come. For now all they have to do is just add a DOT. "3.com"

Please make sure to send that idea to Eric B.

Communications

Wasn't this the original meaning of 3COM ?

Their recent cable modem certification
and their leadership in Gateway VOIP interoperablity, and their QOS net management software (what's it called ?)
proves they are delivering on the promise of their name.

Why not leverage this more in their advertising?

The com in dot com means commercial
(gov for gov't, org for non profit organization etc.)

Why not change the name to 4COM?

Cisco may be the "dot" in dot com,

Why shouldn't "3COM/4COM" be the "com" ?

"3COM make(manufacture)the things that make communications work" Has anyone heard this saying from Lucent? Of course, everyone has heard or read the motto phase from Lucent.

Again, as I mentioned in several articles, 3com are visionaries and 3COM see the future potential of the internet, data, voice, optical, and wireless networks to working together as one. 3COM is the bricks and mortar linkage company that makes everything work together.

The recent Multimedia networks contract (550mil) and paradigm shift from phone modemn to cable modemn w/certification are only two recent developments which will have someone from LU looking hard (very hard) at 3COM as a potential meager candidate. LU is looking for more purchases if it wants to growth to be a 50 to 60 bil corporation. I came up with this LU/3COM theory after seeing a LU VP mention the future growth for LU. In my opinion, 3COM and LU are a perfect marriage because 3COM generates lots of money of course if an foreign company does not buy 3com first. As we all know, currently, 3com is NOT for sale based on EricB comments last week. However, there is definitely a hidden agenda and he is not going to mention anything NOW. (Top Secret)

Peter, as you mentioned,
iPalm.com (for Palm pilot)
iNet.com (for Enterprise networking)
iConnect.com (for Modems, NICs)
are three important parts of 3com. Now, LU could use all three or parts of those divisions then sell the rest. Again, LU has the money and LU might not use any of 3com's divisions. In short, LU might act like a corporate raider and make billions from the undervalued (3com)company on a one time sale which I believe they would not do. This idea is not a very good idea because Lu is looking for sequential revenue growth long term. No internet company nor communication network company in the same industry can provide the sequential revenue growth which LU is looking for at the right price. In my conclusion and opinion, 3COM is the candidate for LU. al
