Scott,

The machines are selling. So there is a niche.

We shouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

I'm confident that Dell will look at it closely to see if there's a way to do it better.

e.g. - I'm using a 2 year old P200MMX with 64MB etc. and find it quite acceptable for my current needs. I may not upgrade for another 2-5 years.

Why shouldn't Dell sell PCs with slightly older components? It reduces the manufacturing cost and may allow them to maintain or even increase their margin. With Dell's service, support, and reliability, I could see them ending the eMachine craze without eating into their current base too seriously.

Similarly, Apple discovered that customers loved the translucent cover and are now offering it in 5 colours. No added functional value whatsoever, but it has certainly increased the demand for iMacs.

I would expect Dell to offer a choice of colour within a year or less.
Why not?

FWIW,
Ian.

<--OT-->iNut,the next generation:->Internet 2, Gemini 2000 &the future of iNut.

Scott:
It is inevitable that companies integrate the iNut into their business processes unless they don't want to be left behind.They tell me we are in the initial stages of this revolution,some are way ahead in this transition than the others and some have not yet started but anyhow 'they' see the need for a better way to accelerate this process,meaning higher bandwidth,more capabilities etc etc. The result, iNut 2 and it is coming.

Business to business E-commerce.

Chemicals online?

I am sure you know that it is an established fact that 'Business to Business' E-commerce will be much larger than 'Business-to-Consumer' E-commerce. As an example in the not too distant future even mundane industrial products like Chemicals will be sold over the internet to business customers around the world, matter of fact it has already started, here is an example:- chemicalonline.com

We also know that Dell is concentrating on the business customers as their prime target and the reason is obvious and there is also a reason why Dell keep saying the next big change will come from higher bandwidth etc etc.

Just some babbling.
