Christine,
You are right to not rely on that blurb off the internet. I know it's just propaganda and lies. The Supreme Court has definitely upheld individuals rights to own guns for self protection and to resist tyranny in our own government by force of arms. I have read excerpts from decisions that said that. but it's been some time ago and I don't know the cases by heart. Heston would not quote all the decisions every time he talks, but he could provide them if asked. The Supreme Court has changed in the last 4-5 decades and now is changing in it's interpretations, weakening the 2nd amendment. It's because the government doesn't want us armed. Because it IS slipping into tyranny. What was one of the first thing Hitler did in Germany? He confiscated all the guns from registered gun owners. So they could not resist him.
So his SS officers would not have a gun battle every time they came to take away some more Jews! Think about it. The government can't stomach hundreds of little wars every time it runs over the top of people who are mad, but they want to take away more liberties and would run into just that. There is a real revolt going on in the mid-west. Never reported in the news. But they do report the anti-government militias as threats to all of us. But is that true or just propaganda, spin?

>I find it extremely scary that, like Lather, you believe that your freedom is preserved by being fully armed.<

Not quite accurate. I believe that my freedom is preserved by the RIGHT to be armed. (That's not quite the same as being armed right here right now.) I equally want to maintain the right to NOT be armed. I don't imagine I'd carry a gun often - 1) it's not real comfy and 2) I don't need the added responsibility.
But I'm displeased with my State and local gov'ts for not even allowing me the (Constitutionally-mandated!!!) option.
