"UMG only gave Comcast 4 days to counter offer. UMG almost gave Comcast no time to come up with a good bid. This is another indication that UMG has decided to go with AT&T."

Jing- I agree with all of what you said. The four day thing really threw me for a loop. Could it be that they were pressured by AT&T to wrap things up? Allow a little time for Comcast out of business courtesy? I also agree that an AT&T deal is the most logical and well-rounded for MediaOne.

Will there be a pop in ATHM tomorrow?

Probably MediaOne had heard something like "It's out best offer, take it or leave it" from Comcast. MediaOne didn't realize it is worth much more than 48B until T made its bid and showed its willingness to get MediaOne.

MediaOne knows that Comcast will be hard-pressed to top T's bid without Strong outside help. By strong, I mean the commitment involving stock and/or cash.

I believe T has a much better chance to get MediaOne. So far, it is real stock/cash commitment. Others remain to be seen as real or fake offer. Anyway, it is always interesting to watch bid war being unfolded.
