OREN ETZIONI AS CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER Co-Creator of MetaCrawler to Oversee Integration of Go2Net Web Technologies With Paul Allen/Vulcan Ventures Cable Systems SEATTLE, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Go2Net, Inc. (Nasdaq: GNET), a network of branded, technology- and community-driven Web sites (http://www.go2net.com), has hired Dr. Oren Etzioni, co-creator of the award-winning MetaCrawler (http://www.metacrawler.com) online search service, as chief technology officer. Etzioni, who has served on Go2Net's Board of Directors since October 1998, joins Go2Net from the University of Washington, where he was a professor in its Department of Computer Science. He also co-founded Netbot, Inc., which was acquired by Excite, Inc. in 1997. "Oren brings Go2Net a world-class base of technology leadership, knowledge and practical experience, which will be extremely valuable in our day-to-day evolution and in leveraging Go2Net's technologies with Vulcan Ventures' emerging broadband infrastructure," said Russell C. Under a March 15 agreement with Vulcan Ventures, Inc., Paul Allen's investment organization, Go2Net will work with Allen's affiliated cable companies to provide those companies' subscribers with access to Go2Net's portal services and content. In addition to his broadband-focused duties, Etzioni will supervise the ongoing implementation of promising new Web technologies for the Go2Net Network and its individual properties. Etzioni has published more than 50 technical papers on intelligent software agents, Web search technology and machine learning, among other topics. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Newsweek, Forbes Magazine, Business Week, The Economist and Discover Magazine. He received a bachelor's degree in computer science from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
