It is charming of you to give our fearless leaders so much credit for Machiavellian brilliance, but think of the people you have known in business, civic organizations, church groups, and schools...There is plenty of incompetence out there, especially when people venture arrogantly beyond their areas of expertise. Even when people are not incompetent, there are frequent lapses of judgement, especially with tough calls. And it is often a worse mess when there are several competing agendas, or when the decisions are by committee...
