Thomson to Unveil New Portable Digital Music Player, WSJ Says

Paris, May 3 (Bloomberg) -- Thomson Consumer Electronics
Inc., the U.S. unit of France's Thomson Multimedia, is expected
to introduce a new portable digital music player today which
plays and records so-called MP3 audio transferred from a personal
computer, the Wall Street Journal Interactive edition reported.
It plans to start selling the product, named the RCA Lyra, this
fall for $200. The device is compatible with Microsoft Corp.'s MS
Audio compression technology and it will store the audio on
removable flash memory cards developed by SanDisk Corp. and hard
drives developed by International Business Machines Corp., the
paper said.

Last December, France sold about a third of Thomson
Multimedia to four companies, including Microsoft Corp., Hughes
Electronics' DirecTV unit, Japan's NEC Corp. and France's Alcatel
SA.
