Based on what I have read, the Tellium Aurora would compete directly with the new Tellabs Titan 6100 series. That's the optical cross connect, not the old digital cross connect we were talking about previously.

The reasons the market didn't pay much attention:

1. Tellabs never sleeps. They said previously they were working on next generation cross connects and here it is. All the skeptics and analysts saying their market would evaporate because Titan was being obsoleted was so much bunk. Tellabs never sleeps and they sure don't give markets away.

2. Tellabs Titan cross connects have a proven track record for reliability and cost effectiveness. New products are tested out the wazoo and features introduced slowly after multiple trials. In other words, the network big wigs know, love, and trust Titans. They are incredibly well supported. The same cannot be said for Tellium or Aurora. Who are these guys? Give me a Titan every time.

3. The Titan 6100 is based on DWDM 32 technology. Even if the inital interfaces are SONET/SDH only, the Aurora states the same interace levels. Advantage of the Tellium? None.

4. We don't know the cost effectiveness of the Tellium Aurora. Even a small difference in interface costs adds up quick when there are 512 of the them. Titans have been proven to be cost effective over time.

Hope that helps, Mike.
