RNWK down 10 points on that news and lots of CNBC exposure. Problem is that every time anyone mentions the good it will do, they follow up with the bad it is already doing [piracy, etc.].

I remember when Xerox machines came out. . .people would copy books and other copyrighted materials with no thought. . .now Kinkos will not copy any copyrighted materials, without written notice of permission from the copyright holder.

Difference between recording off radio and internet is this. . .the future of music is downloading off the internet. . .and real-time performance off internet. . . this will be the number one way to get music. . .NOT by CDs or other hard media. If there was a channel where songs were played on radio, but you had to pay royalties, would you have used it to record your music or would you continue to use the one where you don't HAVE TO pay? That is the problem here.

Contrary to popular belief, most recording artists barely make a living. . . .only the very top ones that write their own songs and consistently sell many millions of copies are doing well. The vast majority can hardly pay their bills. I have loaned money to enough to know how true that is.

The only way to properly analogize this is that if record stores had two type of CDs for every artist. . . those that you paid 14 bucks to buy and those that you could take home for free. . .on the way out the store is a box that asks for 10 bucks to be inserted for each CD you take from the free section.

Question: How long before people are just walking in and taking CDs? And how many will be on the side where you must pay 14 dollars each?

That is what the record industry is up against with regard to MP3.
