Jerome,

In my experience.....Your splitter is probably in the form of the little grey box attached to the back of your house; meant to isolate as well as filter. If you looked inside you'd see the provision for pots.
As far s "why not POTS"? that's a marketing question better aimed at the product planners at Ameritech.
