Shares of Data Broadcasting jumped as rumors spread around the Street Monday that Yahoo! may acquire the company. Data Broadcasting is a leading provider of real-time financial market data to traders and individual investors on the Internet. The rumored takeover price is $28 a share, which would value the transaction at around $942 million,
according to a trader who asked not to be named. A Data Broadcasting spokesperson said speculation that Yahoo could acquire it surfaced a month ago and that "nothing has been done." Data Broadcasting has more than 10,000 subscribers for its Signal Online service, which was launched in July 1997. Last month, the company announced an
online cross-marketing pact with Microsoft (MSFT). While Data Broadcasting shot ahead, shares of Yahoo fell along with many other leading Internet stocks. KM
