<< Rosen appears clueless in this new internut/PC world>>

Jim: You may be right. Mr. Rosen was Chairman of the Board at CPQ when they made all those wonderful acquisitions in the last few years. His board authorized the strategies that have lead to CPQ's downfall. IMO, you are right that not all the bad news is out. CPQ is riding at a 52 week low. Wait until the value investors in the tech sector abandon ship -- CPQ could easily move on down into the teens and maybe lower. Stock prices are based on future expectations. Right now CPQ is like a sinking ship without a rudder ..!! Just my views. Yet, I think Fund Managers are starting to realize this. There are always a few slow learners.

Regards,

Scott

Jim, I think I agree with you for two reasons.

First, CPQ will be looking at large drains on cash to fund its restructuring costs and second, what I believe to be the inescapable conclusion that CPQ must lose significant market share in the next few quarters or up to a couple of years if it wishes to reinvent itself and adapt a suitable direct model. Only after it has taken the appropriate steps will the company begin to rebound. It is always difficult for a company to admit that its strategic vision was wrong, but that's exactly what Rosen must do for the long run good of the company. If it is not done then I believe that CPQ will inexorably evolve into an "also ran" service company.
