This should also be the precursor to the post palm 7 era when voice controlled, hand held data computing devices will also serve as privacy phone systems through out the planet. Exciting times are coming. Bill

Al, re:" 3Com Adds Tunneling To CDMA Data Networks..."

Hi Al,

Thanx for the article.

Do you think this development is a little premature? Definitely a nice piece of the puzzle, but I don't think it will have a major impact... yet.

I believe wireless will only get hotter. But, as far as I understand, the per minute connect charges to the wireless provider (for a local call example) are 10 to 20 times more expensive than just using a regular land line regardless of toll charges.

The article points out that toll charges are eliminated, but using land based VPN's would also provide the same benefit and eliminate the expensive wireless connect charges.

Some people will have wireless, no matter what the connect or toll charges, like phone company and utility trucks and executives. I wonder how big that market is, because their service providers will be the ones buying these products... my impression is it is not a huge market, but a fast growing niche market.

I think wireless is still too expensive, but once the connect charges are eliminated this will really be attractive.

Just my opinion.

Jon :)
