AOpen Integrates Intel 810 Chipset to Create Advanced Graphics Motherboard Solution

AOpen MX3W Motherboard Integrates Advanced Technologies to Offer High-Performance 2D/3D Graphics to Sub-$1,000 PC Market

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading the commercial market in the sub-$1,000 PC category, AOpen America, the world's third largest motherboard manufacturer, today launched a new motherboard, the AOpen MX3W, that integrates the latest Intel® 810 chipset. This new combination of technologies provides commercial customers with an advanced, multimedia motherboard solution at an extremely low price.

By integrating the new Intel 810 chipset with the AOpen MX3W motherboard, resellers and system integrators gain an extremely flexible motherboard solution to build low-cost, commercial PCs. With these new technologies, the MX3W motherboard provides striking 2D and 3D graphics -- without requiring a costly high-performance graphics card.

''Integrating advanced technologies into a reliable motherboard design is why resellers prefer AOpen motherboards,'' said Jason Chuang, director of marketing at AOpen America. ''Utilizing the latest technologies from Intel and leveraging AOpen's engineering and manufacturing prowess, AOpen resellers are able to provide superior motherboard solutions for small businesses, schools and other commercial segments that value quality, consistency, performance and reliability -- at prices that would please any CFO.''

Designed for maximum performance and flexibility in the sub-$1,000 commercial PC market, the MX3W supports both 66-and-100MHz front side bus for 366-to-466MHz Intel Celeron processors, and holds up to 512MB SDRAM. The board provides an upgrade path as well for future plans of 100MHz front-side bus Celeron processors, yet to be announced.

With its microATX form factor, the MX3W provides ample expansion capabilities for custom configurations. Three PCI and one AMR (Audio/Modem Riser) slots allow resellers to add networking, communications and other components as needed. AOpen plans to announce future high-performance AMR modem solutions, as this low-cost design feature becomes an industry standard.

The integrated graphics solution from Intel includes a 24-bit 230MHz RAMDAC engine, and a dedicated 4MB SDRAM display cache that works in parallel with system memory. From this core engine design, the MX3W is capable of rendering 2D/3D, full MPEG-2 and software assisted DVD video playback. AOpen also integrates AC'97 2.1 audio on the motherboard as well to further enhance the total multimedia experience.

The MX3W features a dual Ultra DMA 66 Bus Master IDE channel and onboard I/O solutions include: two serial ports, one parallel port, two-channel USB ports, game/MIDI port, two-channel EIDE and one floppy drive connector, and a 4MB flash ROM BIOS.

Protection solutions include: CPU thermal protection circuits, system voltage monitoring, CPU and housing fan monitoring, over-current protection circuits, and a resettable fuse to provide keyboard and USB device short circuit protection. Also, the MX3W sports leading management solutions, such as the newly defined, Alert-on-LAN, as well as, Wake-on-LAN, Zero voltage Wake-on-Modem, Wake-on RTC timer, Wake-on Mouse, and Wake-on Keyboard.

As evidence of the motherboard's quality and reliability, the MX3W is fully ACPI compliant and meets all stringent FCC, DoC, CE, BCIQ and C-tick requirements. As well, the MX3W is NSTL Year 2000 compliant, and Microsoft Windows 95/98, NT 4.0, PC98/99, and Novell certified.

The AOpen MX3W is available now in the U.S. and Canada from AOpen authorized resellers at an estimated street price of $99, and is backed by a one-year, limited warranty.

Intel's iCat Division Teams With Visa for New E-Commerce Provider Program

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 1999--iCat, a division of Intel Corporation, today announced the iCat E-commerce Provider Program, which helps companies build branded online stores without having to develop, design, administer or host their own solutions. Through this program participating companies can offer E-commerce capabilities to their own customer bases of small- to mid-sized businesses. iCat's E-commerce Provider Program also offers the benefits of the Visa Purchasing Card to provide merchants with an automated payment process.

The program is aimed at financial institutions, telecommunication companies, ISPs and business-focused Internet sites that already serve as Internet ''portals'' for their small- to mid-sized business customers, and would like to also offer their customers the value and convenience of an integrated E-commerce capability.

''The iCat E-Commerce Provider program allows companies to immediately establish presences as providers of E-commerce solutions for their own business customers without having to shoulder the substantial cost of development,'' said Doug Schulze, general manager of the iCat division of Intel. ''This lets Provider companies participate in the booming Internet economy while providing more value to their customers and promoting their brand name -- all through a simple program that streamlines the entire process.''

Intel's iCat division provides the hardware, software, communications and services required to host and serve the Internet stores established through the iCat E-Commerce Provider Program. This allows a provider to focus on marketing the service to its customer base.

The Visa Purchasing Card provide merchants with a solution to automate the payment process while helping to reduce transaction expenses and improve cash flow.

''Our involvement in the iCat E-commerce Provider Program will expand Visa Purchasing Card acceptance to small- to medium-sized businesses,'' said Ryan Ross, vice president, New & Emerging Markets, Visa U.S.A. ''The Visa Purchasing Card will offer customers of merchants accepting the card the added value of enhanced transaction information when making online purchases.''

Merchants who build online stores through a participating iCat Provider will have the option to access the same marketing services and support a merchant would receive by building a store directly through the existing iCat Commerce Online service. These include assistance in establishing a merchant account and online real-time payment processing, as well as securing space in the iCat Mall. Merchants also have the ability to register their stores with Internet search engines, creating their own unique addresses and monitoring their site position on leading search engines. iCat's services also enable merchants to advertise through banner ads, and send direct e-mails to their customers and prospect lists as well.

The iCat E-commerce Provider Program is the first new service offering from iCat since it became a division of Intel in February.
