There is something that benefit circuit switch makers, LU, ALA, NEC, Siemens and Ericsson. Technologies that take longer to take off, such as ADSL, give those switch makers time to introduce in their platforms the technolgies that were supposed to stand alone.

LU did it with the ADSL and so did Siemens in their EWSD. So ADSL is just another service such as ISDN or POTS. Given their installed base and relationship with their customers they can surely extend the life of their platforms.

Gary,

>> You are very long winded. <<

He is detailed and 100% correct. The details seem or prove your theory incorrect.

1) Nothing like changing your theory to:

>> However if even 1 customer uses a multiservice edge from Cisco, 3Com or another packet based telephony company than that is lost buisness...period. <<

Nice attempt to prove a new point, while your previous theories have been completely trashed with URLs and FACTS from Mr. Fun and myself.

>>> Now, if a user deploys a voice on packet network what are the chances that they will use the 7R/E edge - 100%? IF so, than I am wrong. <<<

No, you are/were/and-still-are wrong in your understanding of the 5ESS. We have been going round and round on the same issue, now you want to change your theory to this 100% lame thing. Very sad, poor attempt to change your theory, it's looking like the ALA vs CSCO xDSL debate all over again.

>> I simply was looking to prove my point about maintanence costs. I see you didn't go there.... That's fine <<

Why should Mr. Fun attempt to prove your lame theory. I've asked YOU to provide the numbers, not Mr. Fun. You have yet to provide a single COST figure on the TDM architecture. You are getting lamer by the minute. Your point is about COST of TDM, prove it with URLs, Figures, etc.

2) Cisco doesn't have wireless, round and round we go....

3) good, we can drop this issue.

4) etc, etc, etc,

>> The discussion is about timing and migration given new technologies in the multiservice data world - the high margin business for LU. Who will capitalize, and what challenges lie ahead. <<

Lets add up the pieces Cisco is lacking... Microelectronics, Optical, Fiber, Wireless, power systems, support, financing ability, etc. Now Cisco is falling behind in their ONLY core area... data.

Come on Gary, lets talk about Cisco halting development of the TGX 8750, an IP and ATM switch for service provider and enterprise WAN backbones.

We could continue to go round and round on your misunderstanding of the 7R/E, but this looks like more FUN. Falling behind in Data is a BAD sign for Cisco, looks like ASND/LU and NN will win....
