DRD,

Not a chance. T has ATHM, who recently signed an agreement with FOX for content and ATHM recently purchased EXCITE.

technology will take care of aol's broadband strategy over the next few years, notably shorter than will be required by athm etc to ramp up eqpt and capture significant market share. whether it will be copper, phone lines, wireless or dark fiber matters not. all are making incredible advances in ability to deliver fast access.

IMHO the real issue will be ease and expense of installation and use by residential customers and small business as the speed differentials between the various delivery systems will close.

As Case said, the point is not to rush ahead blindly, but to deliver broadband performance (vs broadband cable) in a manner that is strategically sound and reasonably priced.

the broadband issue is like a buzz word. everyone's on it and few understand it. look at athm's customer buildout rate and the money they will have to spend to realize their potential. there's still time for those with the customer base to find the right ways to deliver broadband performance levels.

_DSL was going to be the provider of choice for expanded bandwidth.
The problem with _DSL is that it relies on the local phone companies to cooperate. They don't have a good record of cooperating to bring other services and signals into the end user. The cable companies are willing to act now. _DSL is the technology of choice but it may not get it's act together before cable has the end user committed to it's infrastructure.
