Whys1: It's really good to see COMPAQ kick butt, even on a day when LPGL and NETP sustain more losses.

Again, another post from a new investor who has not been slaughtered on this one. Believe me I've been slaughtered on others!
Opinion:
CPQ will rise again - good companies (CPQ is still a great company IMHO) almost invariably come back from less positive times.
Witness today is the casino sector. CIR used to be the dog of dogs, a wimp being punished by other behemoths such as MIR. Take a look at it now.

Whysl,
I have no problems with Compaq. It is a growing company with all the classic growth problems. I have been buying almost every time it's price was down was some years. Some times when the price was up - Shame on me for that. I don't regret buying Compaq. I also don't look for it to gap up tomorrow or next week. We have 16 days of base at this level, and I expect it will remain here for another 20 or 30 days. After basing, Compaq should start a long slow climb for a while. Then a new CEO will be announced, and we will base again. Towards December Compaq will become a more favored stock and the price will improve greatly. Some time in January or February, the whole cycle could repeat at a higher price level, or it could take off and set new highs, and split.

I consider Compaq a good long term buy in the 20s. Of course it could go lower if some one yells fire about the DOW being too high. Right now I'm slowly selling almost all of my stocks except Compaq so I can reposition my portfolio when that happens. It may take a while before some one does yell fire, but it's going to happen. I just happen to think it is going to be sooner then later. One thing I have learned is that the market does not go straight up.

So today's Compaq price activity means little unless you are trading Compaq.
