The model has to make sense. 50% of Americans still don't have a checking account, and I am sure the figure who have flown (in an airplane) has not passed 50%. Maybe if you lived in a dangerous very congested city, but the touch, selection, picking vegtables and meat, social attributes. sampling (I like that), delivery, and the hassle of going through a selection list of thousands of item, will keep it from being a major sucess for a long time. Ann Winblad and Barksdale are setting up a new one in Seattle. Oh well, eventually he got out of Netscape with his skin; courtesy of the Justice Department, AOL and a thing called Portals. And might I remind you how the market valued that model in the early days after the IPO.

They may have to wait for the X generation to become senior citizens. Clearly today's seniors are generally not highly proficient at computers and the internet and online drugstores and online groceries probably would not target seniors today.

The way they would target seniors would be via mailings. I think a significant number of seniors do not enjoy going to the drug store frequently to get their prescriptions. An online drugstore can direct mail seniors and market itself as the drug store which can deliver a regular supply of drugs and save them the trips. But then it would just be a mail order drug store and not an online drug store.

Online drugstores and PPOD are somewhat interesting. IMO, Netbank is not interesting at all because it deals with the ultimate commodity (money), has *zero* barriers to entry, and thus will be another online whore in a business with no margins.
