Amazon reminds me more of Snapple, one of the earlier hype stocks. All the people who bought the stock went out and hyped the drink. Never mind that you can buy books and CD's elsewhere for 20-40 percent less. They've now got a vested stake in the company. They go out and buy the new flavors, run over to the message boards, and tell everyone what a great new drink it is. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
