That's why I made that exact analogy in an earlier post. It works the same way up to a point. Cars have certain economic benefits, and certain costs. We decide who may drive a car, and under what conditions. And we decide what is an acceptable level of death.

The parallel fails in several respects. It is easy to show a great deal of economic benefit by the use of cars. (Also, a great deal of economic cost). I'm not sure you can demonstrate economic benefit through the use of guns.

Presumably, you can decrease vehicular homicide through mandating lower speeds. Is there an analogy with hand guns?

I am not an ideologue on this subject. I am disturbed by the easy access to guns that many people enjoy, and I am also disturbed by the violence done by many gun wielders.
