MK,

I think you meant "If DDR DRAM is an ...". DRDRAM is Direct Rambus DRAM.

Assuming that that's what you meant I agree 100% with you.

Dave

If DDR DRAM is an alternative solution than why did Sony pick RMBS for their SONY Playstation II due next year???

See #reply-9140140

I have no doubt that Rambus has a market niche. But that niche is not the entire DRAM market place. The Rambus niche is for large volume makers of systems that require high bandwidth relative to the memory capacity, like Nintendo. The DDR niche is for small volume systems, plus makers of large capacity, price sensitive memories, like servers. It is just too much of a price disadvantage to use Rambus in places where DDR will work as well.

Outside their respective niches (e.g. PC main memory) SDRAM/DDR-SDRAM and Rambus compete.

SONY doesn't think DDR DRAM is stable
SONY uses Rambus soldered directly to the boards of the playstation. This gives them much more control over impedance than if a socket were used. Their risk and problems are much lower, so Rambus clearly shines in that situation.
