Ebay on-line auctions down for five hours
SAN FRANCISCO, May 3 (Reuters) - A portion of online auctioneer eBay Inc.'s (EBAY - news) web site crashed on Monday, preventing users from bidding for items for more than five hours.

EBay first alerted users to the problem at 8:45 a.m. EDT (1145 GMT) on its announcement board on its Internet site.

''The news is not good,'' the company announced. ''We will be down a little longer.''

The company said there appeared to be a problem with the computer hardware that runs the auctions. Online auctions resumed at about 1:55 p.m. EDT, according to eBay.

EBay extended all auctions that were scheduled to end between 8:30 a.m. EDT and 3 p.m. EDT.

Company officials could not immediately be reached to comment.

Oh by the way -- this is OT
