I ponder whether NYSE might be interesting in any of the technology Ashton offers?

You may want to read the Resumes

of several of ASTN's priceaples.
I'm very confident these guys are
putting together a commission rate
and trading model that will work.
All they needed over the past few
years were the SEC's blessings,
and the volitile $3 Trillion equity
market we now all enjoy playing.

300 of the most liquid stocks to start, and being the institutions place the orders direct, not sure what the NYSE can do about it.

the start date may not be july 1st, the 3rd Beta test already in progress, and may already have been completed.

Also, while the trading system operates pre-market hours at first, they have plans to expand this to during market hours.

<<<You think that the NYSE will let that much volume go to the
PHLX?>>>

I missed this question. My answer is NO, the NYSE won't care for this. However, I am not sure what they can do about. In fact, I don't even know how they will know who is using Ashton's system, do you?

It's an anonymous system, but come July, if we see volume picking up on the Philly, my guess will be that somebody is using it. I am not sure why Reuters issue the report they did, but perhaps the suggestions in it are a possible response the NYSE could take.

As I've indicated, I am quite happy to wait for VWAP to go live in July, but, in the interim, I don't see any harm in pondering certain other possible developments.

Cheers
