You can't be much of an OO programmer if your working on project plans or spreadsheets. And if your rebooting your machine a lot chances are you haven't quite figured out pointers yet. By the way, I find MS Office + Project to be the best tools out there for the price.

Any IT position you will spend most of your time rebooting your machine, doing stupid timelines in Microsoft Project, Dilbert charts with powerpoint, and action items in Excel. The rest in meetings. Developing quality software is a joke. Sounds like your problem is you don't like to be accountable to your bosses/customers. Don't blame MSFT for that. You're not interested in a "better mousetrap". You are interested in venting you spleen against the evil empire. Get some help.
