Mark,

VoIP over cable, or cable-iphony as I like to call it, for its iffy quality, is still being evaluated by T and others. Last week it became clear, however, that T would join the ranks of the other MSOs in postponing its plans to enter that space indefinitely, and will instead go with switched voice over cable until the IP variant stabilizes. This last position that they've stated goes beyond the notion of first going with switched for only the first couple of system deployments, and then going with VoIP later in the year or early next year, as was their original stand. One reference to this:

At this time, there doesn't appear [to me, at least] to be a stated point in time when the transition to IP will take place, or even a guarantee that it ever will. I do believe that they will, but the certainty that T was espousing just last month and earlier this year, seems to be gone now.

I welcome comments, as always.
