Server Outage Shuts Down Online Auctioneer eBay For Most Of Monday
Dow Jones On Line - May 03, 1999 21:27

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Auctions on eBay Inc. were suspended Monday after the popular Internet site experienced an outage and wasn't able to process bids or accept new listings, the Associated Press reported.

The online auctioneer said the server trouble was first reported in the morning and hadn't been resolved by afternoon.

The company couldn't hold auctions of just-released merchandise tied to the new "Star Wars" movie. By midday, rival Amazon.com (AMZN) had more than 15 auctions of new toys and other products based on the eagerly awaited movie.

"We are always concerned when we have any downtime on the site," said Kevin Pursglove, senior director for communications at eBay (EBAY). "We are trying to respond as quickly as we can."

The company wouldn't say why the server went out. eBay told customers in an online announcement that those who felt their auctions were "materially impacted" by the outage can contact the company for refunds.

Dt, getout while I can? You mean before the door hits my ass ? I'm no short, as a matter of fact I'm 95% long or in $cash.
The only short strategy I currently have is trying to get a little pork off the bone on some these Internets.
This morning I reduced my max pain down some.
Ps
I'm going to try and buy a little Aol @130.
