Leigh, the DCR is for testing.Much higher priced spread than everyday flight recorders ( I thought AXC made those too when I first owned the stock). Also, the MetaStor products are competition for MicroNet. Terabyte capacity RAID systems are MUCH more expensive than DSTs.

OT - There's two ways one can look at the FAA's request to expedite the black (orange) box upgrades on 737s:

1. As article claims: to provide a blueprint for deficiencies, OR

2. To be able to solve possible future "mishaps" more conclusively:-(

As one who travels a lot, neither of these is much too comforting.
