There was a time Geoff when some thought there was some over-all rational reason for stocks to move...earnings, interest rates, etc. I am not at all sure that such is the case now. There has been much talk about a new paradigm to explain stock movements. Now I often simply say "who knows...it must be the momentum players"...and leave it at that. Day traders, on line trading, computer programs, international transfer of manufacturing, etc. etc. adds up to an almost insurmountable amount of information to "explain" stock prices. The new gurus are those over paid stock analysts one sees on CNBC that tell us why something goes up and down. In truth, " A Random Walk Down Wall Street" seems to still be a book worth reading.
