America Online-Germany Activates Internet Voice Messaging Capability of Bogen's Thor Unified Messaging Product May 4, 1999 08:31 AM RAMSEY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1999--Bogen Communications International, Inc. BOGN ("Bogen") today announced that America Online, Inc. ("AOL") AOL in Germany is now beta testing the voicemail retrieval capability of Bogen's unified messaging platform, Thor(TM). Last month, AOL-Germany disclosed its planned trial of Thor's voicemail retrieval application at CeBIT, the world's largest trade show. AOL-Germany's decision to add Thor's voicemail retrieval function follows the overwhelmingly favorable response to Thor's on-line fax retrieval capability, now in use by more than 250,000 of AOL's 900,000 German subscribers. Following the successful conclusion of a three month trial, AOL-Germany indicated that a subscriber-wide rollout is planned. Thor's unified messaging platform brings order to the confusion that comes from the use of multiple message formats such as e-mail, faxes, and voicemail. Thor users are given individual phone numbers to which their voicemails and faxes are delivered. These messages may then be retrieved, stored and forwarded the same way as any other e-mail message. The expanded provision of Thor-based services to AOL-Germany follows shortly after Bogen's announcements that: -- GMX GmbH ("GMX"), a leading provider of free e-mail services in Germany, has selected Thor as its platform for unified messaging, -- The introduction of the enterprise version of Thor, which is now available for resale by switch manufacturers and computer systems integrators as well as for direct sale to large companies, organizations and institutions, -- In conjunction with fine tuning a domestic and European unified messaging business plan that incorporates a broad spectrum of Internet and Internet-related growth initiatives, the Company is looking into several funding options. Bogen entered the unified messaging arena in December 1998 when its wholly-owned Speech Design subsidiary acquired Thor's developer. America Online, the worldwide leader in on-line services, was one of the early pioneers in large-scale unified messaging when it made Thor's on-line fax retrieval available to its members in Germany. Bogen Communications International, Inc., based in Ramsey, New Jersey and Munich, Germany, develops, manufactures, and markets telecommunications peripherals and sound processing equipment. Bogen's products are sold to commercial, industrial, professional and institutional customers worldwide.
