"Dell $30.00[?]"

i don't know what will happen. point is that dell is not exxon. it is very volatile and based on the high call premiums, option buyers and sellers expect a wide range of prices. covered call strategy works well only if stock finishes near the strike price. for example, i don't think you will be too pleased if dell goes to 60 and you either lose your stock or buy back the calls at a loss.

as for buying back the calls prior to earnings, they are likely to be very expensive.
