Then I conclude that I have crappy monitor ($170 for a 17", what was I thinking?). I just read Thresh's Viper 770 review. Several points of criticism but ultimately the kid glove treatment with Diamond, IMO. Thresh does seem to be a milder version of the typical web reviewer. "No 175Mhz? When the TNT2 Ultra was first announced, Diamond was expecting to ship their parts at 175/200Mhz core/memory. Quite a few folks were skeptical however, and it seems they've been proven right. Most likely due to an inability to obtain good yields at 175Mhz core, high-end users looking to get the most performance out of their TNT2 will have to take their chances and do so through the Turbo Gauge. We're disappointed that Diamond was not able to deliver on their claims for this one, but it's unclear where the fault lies. Either way, 175/200 will still be the goal of the TNT2 overclocker. To help dissipate the extra heat from the V770 Ultra, Diamond is taking the effort to place an active fan over the TNT2 chip. Video card fans are nothing new, and we've seen them for a number of chipsets, from TNT1 to Banshee. However, adding a fan is no small expense, and depending on the power of the cooling unit, can add an additional $3-10 to the manufacturing cost (and that's very significant). The passive heatsink, such as the one used on the vanilla V770 usually only costs 30-50 cents. OEM as wellAs with the vanilla V770, the V770 Ultra will not ship with digital flat panel support. However, the OEM versions of these cards will have the appropriate components and connectors for DFP support. The OEM versions will only be available in bulk, but anyone used to searching for the lowest price online is undoubtedly familiar with "white-box" or "no-box" OEM deals. While the option doesn't exist in the retail version, the OEM will be available in both 16MB and 32MB. In most other regards, the OEM should be identical to the retail version of the V770 Ultra."
