I don't know about the 3/3 exactly, but the up/down w/severity is definitely for real. The 'cycle' can definitely be played to one's financial advantage.

There has been a repetitive boom and bust cycle in the chip business and it has been identified as being roughly every 3 years each. The point is, however, that the past does not necessarily repeat itself precisly on a timetable. Nevertheless, what is clear is that the chip industry has done it again and I believe the results will be similar for investors who pick the right stocks now. I would suggest that you look for companies that are starting to beat estimates and hold them for a few years. LSI looks like it's 1 of those companies.
