I have heard a lot recently about CPQ arrogance, both in field situations and in business relations. I hope this is one of the trends that the new CPQ management team roots out. IMO this behavior is one of the hallmarks of a company which has lost focus - I saw it at DEC in the late 80's and IBM in the early 90's. It was not a hallmark of classic CPQ - just the opposite.

I agree on the bad timing of the DEC acquisition - I presume that EP and EM were hoping to hide the channel issues in the chaos but the organizational confusion was worse for the company and in any event the channel problems were hardly masked.

I'm not sure that Direct is the right model for all of CPQ but they certainly need a better plan than the current one.
