Suzuki GB Drives Future Growth With J.D. Edwards OneWorld
UK Headquarters Aims to Improve Service to Dealers and Customers
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1999--Enterprise business software provider J.D Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC - news) announced that Suzuki GB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki Japan, has selected J.D. Edwards' OneWorld(tm).

The implementation of OneWorld will not only improve Suzuki GB's service to dealers and customers through better management of the overall supply chain and distribution network, but also support the company's aggressive growth plans.

Suzuki GB handles import, distribution and support for all Suzuki products across the UK, as well as liaison with the worldwide Suzuki dealer network. The company has expanded rapidly over the past few years, and is expecting to grow by 50% during 1999. To support their growth plans, Suzuki GB needed to ensure that its parts and distribution control software would be able to cope with the projected increased demand for its products and services.

''We needed an efficient and comprehensive distribution system, able to manage a complex order and distribution network in real-time, as well as providing effective, up-to-date management information on current business status,'' said Ian Double, parts general manager at Suzuki GB.

Key criteria for selection of enterprise software were agile, scaleable software to support business growth, the ability to facilitate and support quick implementation, and support for both IBM AS/400® and NT® platforms. Although Suzuki GB uses NT as its standard platform, some other worldwide subsidiaries operate on AS/400, so it was important to support both options to protect existing and future hardware investment.

''J.D. Edwards was the obvious choice for us as not only was the product flexible enough to accommodate either AS/400 or NT platforms with ease, it was also functionally superior to others on the market. The product provided a good fit with our requirements and is also able to grow and develop with us as our needs change,'' said Double.

With J.D. Edwards OneWorld in place, Suzuki GB is able to dramatically improve its service to the dealer network and customers alike: dealers are now able to process their own orders, significantly speeding up the entire process, and all customer inquiries can be tracked and progressed much more efficiently. Suzuki GB is therefore able to treat customers proactively, while ensuring that its overall inventory is kept to an optimum and easily controllable level. Most importantly, management can easily obtain an accurate picture of the status and impact of sales, enabling much more effective business planning.

''For organizations like Suzuki with ambitious growth plans, the supplier's approach to their business problem is almost as important as the software solution itself,'' said Trevor Salomon, marketing director at J.D. Edwards UK Ltd. ''Companies want to know not just that their software investment will work now, but that it is agile enough to adapt to support their changing business objectives, with the full backing of the supplier throughout implementation and beyond. Our recently launched Idea to Action(tm) initiative is designed to ensure that both sides of this picture are fulfilled, enabling companies to look to long term IT strategies in support of business objectives with the guarantee that we will be there to support them, every step of the way.''

Suzuki GB began implementation of OneWorld's distribution and financial modules at its Crawley, West Sussex, England headquarters in February 1999 with the project due to go live at the end of August.

The price does not seem to be moving much today. My guess is that the bad news was already factored in. I expected a greater over-reaction by Wall Street and thus my GTC orders are not getting filled. I had hoped to add more below my original price of $11.5/share. Congrats to all those that held firm. When news like this comes out it can be difficult to be a long.
