Victor- I really didnt need the explanation of how these surveys are done. I have done them myself (design, implementation, and follow-up) in both corporate and academic environments (not as a student, as faculty). So I am well-aware of how these things can and do go.

I would not expect that ML creates and implements a perfect survey. It will be flawed. The marginal time and effort spent in trying to make such a survey incrementally better probably does not make sense given all the other activities that these firms have on their plate. Am I saying that they have compromised the quality of survey because they are simply too busy? Probably. Do I think that fatally compromises the integrity of the data (and its conclusions). No.

I'd like to reiterate: It may well be that ML included some of the answers (sample size, etc.) that you and I are seeking in their original report, or that they would provide this upon request. Remember, we are just looking at a post. I take it on (some) faith, without seeing the actual report, that ML has chosen a decent sample here, and have been, at a minimum, somewhat professional during this process, or that they wouldn't publish pure crap. You don't share my faith.

Really, it comes down to trust, (like all surveys) that it was performed with integrity. I am somewhat trusting of the data, given it jives with a lot of other anecdotal data I've seen (still reserving some judgement in absence of knowing the actual methodology)
and you don't seem to put too much stock in it ("superficial").
Fair enough. But I don't think either one of us has enough data (at this point) to argue conclusively. We haven't seen the original report and/or spoken to ML about it.

Well, that's enough of that (for me, at least).

BTW- Speaking of surveys.....that, perhaps, "heading" soccer balls does cause brain damage after all.....I just saw the video of Robbie Fowler (Liverpool) sniffing the "cocaine" touch line on his hands and knees (from a few weeks ago)...he must rank up there with Gazza for pure, raw (lack of) common sense in action <G>

I-Watch reporting heavy interest in buying Compaq. Heavy interest at all the price levels today. Already about 55M buy and only 10M sell with institutions accounting for about 2/3 or more, so far, about $10M of the trading. Since actual transactions usually reported later and interest has continued heavy the whole day that number may actually be larger. Usually interest is heavy at the open and there are a few peaks during the day. Today interest has been consistent across the day. This interest level is similar to last Thursday, which led me to predict a good day on Friday which did not happen. Along with some good news, IMHO, the stage is being set for some up movement.
