One man's opinion after spending a few hours using the CyberX demo.

It is useful for learning how to use CyberX, but not as a trading simulator. The "canned" data is, as I understand it, a true speed replay of historical data from some (unknown to the user) day in the recent past. Calling this "real time" is about as accurate as saying that popping your favorite CD in the player is the same as going to a live concert. With total absence of relevant information regarding the overall market environment at the time the data was recorded, every "trade" you make with the demo is pretty much a WAG.

If I can get a bit higher on my soap box for a second, as a person with a technical background I take exception to the industry wide use of the term "real time" to describe snapshots of current information. Using them only as an example I am familiar with, Datek has been advertising free real time quotes for as long as I can remember. They didn't have anything that even approached real time until they came out with their streamer. In a similar vein, calling a replay of something days to weeks old real time is a misuse of the term. I'm getting down now.

With that point made, CyberX and I am sure the other Cyber trading systems have a legitimate claim to being real time systems when they are passing information to the user with the smallest time delay technology will support. The CyberX demo does not fall into this category. I don't know what CyBerTrader allows you to do in simulation mode, so I have nothing to say about that.
