Well for one thing, on this question of wealth vs. the markets, I'm trying to gauge how much foreign money we have or are likely to get in the future. For example on the msft thread are a bunch of canadians. Canada has rules about how much retirement money can go into US equities. Of course these guys want to max out on US equities and that situation with Canada or lots of other countries is not likely to change. Apparently US index funds don't count against your total of % US equities - maybe because some canadian companies are listed? But anyway foreign retirement money in US equities is new I believe, enabled by online investing, and may have profound effects in the forseeable future, and this corresponds with the inflation of the indices against other equities. Theres just all kinds of trends going on with foreign money and I can't seem to get any good information on it.
