Cyberian seeks CEO, Darryl Peck to remain chairman
KENT, Conn., May 3 (Reuters) - Online computer store
Cyberian Outpost Inc. said Monday Darryl Peck, its founder,
chief executive and president would step aside soon as a
replacement was found, and would assume the post of chairman.
"After we find somebody, I will become chairman," Peck said
in a telephone interview. "We're looking to find someone
terrific, and we're going to do it fairly quickly. This is not
going to drag on for six months."
Peck, who said he has read the business section of the
newspaper and studied companies since he was seven years old
has seen a pattern of entrepreneurs remaining at the helm for
too long.
"We're looking to expand into other products, and we are
going to be a big bsusiness," he said. "We want to acquire
other companies, and I want a seasoned CEO to sit along side
me."
Peck said Outpost.com, which sells computers, software and
accessories, is looking to expand through acquisitions, but
declined to comment on what kinds of companies would be of
interest. Peck said he wanted to diversify, but not in the
style of Amazon.com <AMZN.O>, a company that seems to be
expanding into every direction.
As for his own decision to become chairman one a new chief
executive and president were found, he said "A lot of people
can be a better day-to-day manager than me. This was my
decision. What I do best is speak for the company.
Cyberian's directors formed a special search committee and
have hired an executive recruitment firm.
