Think of the Capellix as an Arbitrated Loop Super-Hub. The switching backplane simply allows more Loops to attach through a single box. This would come in handy when consolidating many Loop clusters into a single manageable box. As a FCAL chassis device with the distance limitations of copper and short wave transcievers the Capellix is more of a threat to other manufacturer's FCAL hubs in port extensibility and price and actually supercedes Gadzoox' own hubs. It is not a direct competitor to Ancor's "beyond the loop" fabric switching capabilities. No catch-up is required.

It would make a nice addition to the Hitachi FC product set if and when it tests out.
