hi frank...don't you think the bond mkt is selling off because of the anticipation of friday's economic report? it seems they need more proof of low inflation to believe it...also, there seems to be a "sell into the rally" mentality at these major milestones (dow 10K, 11K...)...JMThoughts...take care, GRANOLA

frank or anyone, do you know of a good chat site related to bonds/interest rates...that sort of topic? it seems obvious that the bond mkt is unlikely to keep selling off...the economy just isn't likely to continue to grow at this rate going fwd, and there is no sign of inflation...but i am curious to hear what others are saying/learning about this and the relationship to the stock mkt...it's funny how some days the stock mkt doesn't even notice the bond mkt...

...i think today when earnings announcements start to dry up (now), the stock mkt looks for good and bad news elsewhere...bond yields are of particular interest now because there are no major earnings...DELL and CSCO, IMO, will change that if the mkt doesn't wise up sooner.

if i am wrong, donnie said i could buy another 1000 shares of dell at 40 1/2 :)

cheers, GR

Frank, re:<< If the economy is improving world wide then one would think the technology stocks would continue to show upward momentum.>> you are correct. However, I think part of the situation is that the techs have risen so much, that the MM have big, and I mean big, profits sitting in these stocks. Further, we all know the valuation that the techs carry. (When I say techs, I mean hardware, software and the internet stocks.) So, when some analyst said...look, we have these cyclical stocks sitting over here, they are undervalued, and a great buy given the global economy is going to improve over the next 12 to 18 months. So, the stampede starts, and the rest is history...or should I say a work in progress. <g>

A few weeks ago, I said the rotation won't end for 2 to 3 quarters. Within a few days of my forecast, the techs had a great rally. I looked like the rotation had been reversed, and money way flowing back into the techs. I guess this was the "dead cat" bounce that we should have expected. The reason I gave my forecast of 2 to 3 quarters was based on concerns over the Y2K issue, declining hardware prices, and the need to see a few quarter of future earnings.

Guess I expect this high tech mess to continue for sometime.
