What I'm talking about is that if 99% of what is done currently does NOT require precision, then why not reduce the amount of silicon devoted to floating point except for those applications that really need it? I have no idea what the percentage actually is, but there really is no law against thinking outside the box and asking the question, other than that it makes people on the threads want to scream at you and call you names.

So I repeat, can anyone tell us how many applications actually require that high level of precision, and are the rest of us just buying something we are unlikely to need? Scream and shout if you wish, but it is only a question.
