SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Siliconix Inc. here today said its net income rebounded in the first quarter to $9.7 million on sales of $81.0 million compared to a loss of $11.4 million on revenues of $65.3 million last year.

"The recovery in demand in our major markets, telecommunications and portable computers, as well as automotive, that began late last year remains robust," said King Owyang, president and CEO of Siliconix, which is a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. During the first quarter, he said, Siliconix began to look for additional capacity to produce power devices.

"We now anticipate that we will have at least one foundry producing these parts for us by next year," Owyang said. "We are seeing particularly favorable conditions in Asia Pacific, and our business was up sequentially in all geographic areas except Europe, where it was flat."
