Hi Alex,

I must admit that the Indian Govt. scheme of looting temple gold is rather innovative and it might actually work for a while. However, it might backfire on the temples.

What comes to mind is:
- what are the temples doing with all that gold. Aren't they supposed to help the poor in providing food and shelter, rather that snatching the poorman's gold in disguise of offerings ?
- will the temples get the gold back from the government ? I don't think so. It will be stolen by the government for ever. There is no personal interest to fight for the repatriation of the gold.
- Even if the gold is miraculously returned to the temple, it will be subject to repeated raids. History tells us so.

It has CONFISCATION written all over it.

Cheers, Lalit Jain
