To JGoren: Rough translation is "Baby Bells" . RBOC actually stands for Regional Bell Operating Companies, i.e. Bell Atlantic, etc. Chaz

What does "RBOC" mean? I'm sure when told, I will feel like an idiot because it's obvious.

There was once an old timer on this thread. We called him ranger Mike because he is some park management specialist. He asked a question once, "... who is Harvey White?" The rest of us laughed so hard that he never showed up again.

I must say I have not heard as stupid a question since, well since just now .... <g>

Note on RBOC's - I am pretty sure "RBOC" is pronounced "are-bok." (This is the way I have repeatedly heard telecommunications experts say it on TV).

Every once in a while you will have someone like what I call the "CNBC guest mo-ron" pronounce it "ree-bok."

I always snicker (watching here at home), but the CNBC regulars successfully keep a straight face.

Jon.

JGoren, I was going to tell all you guys about the holes in WCDMA, how HDR occupies the same space as the voice channel, and why Elvis still holds his Q even after the run-up, but Walt & engineer keep whupping me. So here's a quick techno-reply to:
What does "RBOC" mean?

What with all the technical lingo we used to sling around at M.I.T., these acronymns became a necessity as I'm sure you'll appreciate. Thus: RBOC = Really Bodacious Oversized Cajones

Have a Pepsi day. Surfer Mike
