MARKET NEWS: U.S. stocks slid on Tuesday, as rising interest
rates rattled investors into cashing in some profits following
Monday's sprint past a new milestone. The Dow Jones Industrial
Average ended off 128.58 points, or 1.17%, at 10,886.11, giving
back more than half of its sharp gains from the day before. On
Monday, the blue-chip stock gauge had shot past the 11,000 mark
just 24 trading days after it had cracked the historic 10,000
level. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 50.45 points, or 1.99%, to
2485.13. And the S&P 500 Index, a broader market gauge, dropped
22.63 points to 1332. The broad sell-off was spurred by a big drop
in the Treasury market that sent bond yields soaring to its
highest levels in some 10 months. The benchmark 30-year bond ended
the day off 25/32 to yield 5.72%. See

Victor, I was just responding to Elwood's question to someone who posted that there was strong buying interest in CPQ. El asked why the stock was setting new lows. I was just commenting that the indicator I had mentioned here in early April had turned negative a couple of weeks ago.

I'm no technician but as I said in the past I have found this indicator to be helpful for longer term tradable moves. Like any other indicator, it can change pretty quickly. Seems to me the lack of any real direction from management has killed the buying interest that stayed there throughout the EP-EM departures. There hasn't been much interest in CPQ for the past few weeks and probably won't be until something significant happens. I'm starting to subscribe to the "dead money" philosophy.

Stuart.
